“What the hell do I wear to an interview?” The first step is to figure out what kind of fashion sense your perspective workplace has.
Every workplace is going to have its own unique culture — and with culture, comes fashion styles. It’s perfectly acceptable to reply to the invitation for an interview with a question about ‘workplace culture’. “What do people typically wear to the office?” is a totally cool thing to ask if you’re unsure.
Once you know what you’re looking for, we recommend hitting up Topman. It’s way higher quality than some ‘fast-fashion’ grindhouse (the kind usually endorsed by a former soccer player). Topman also isn’t too rich for our blood — with much better pricing than you’ll find at ‘Brand Eck’.
Jobs that need a suit.
Many workplaces are becoming more casual, however, there are lots of jobs out there that will still expect you to wear a suit every day. If that’s the case, you are no longer allowed to wear something you borrowed out of you dad’s closet.

Jobs that don’t.
Now, you might think that not having to wear a suit every day is a bit of a relief. But truth be told, having to wear a suit simplifies things. ‘Business casual’ is much more of a grey area than ‘business proper’ because there’s more of a sliding scale of what’s acceptable, so you’ll want to play it as safe as possible for an interview.

It’s possible that nothing in your current wardrobe is going to cut it. And yes, that includes that one collared shirt you own, specially reserved for ‘going out’ with. You know the one. The “Going Out Shirt”. It’s probably satin or gingham, possibly embroidered. Burn that shirt. It makes you look like you’re on a bad country music-themed reality show.
Instead, invest in some contemporary shirts and pants, and shoes that make you look like an employable adult. If you’re going to do sneakers, they have to be classic white or black Converse. Your best bet is to begin to convert your day-to-day wardrobe into something that makes you look like an adult. The more you dress like an employable human, the better.
