Chances are, you have a dilemma: you hardly have energy to work part-time, but you can’t afford to not work.
There’s no doubt that holding a part-time job can be though; it has a huge impact on your stress levels and on your free time, which can make life a lot harder. But not all student jobs have to be a pain.
These 6 part-time positions that can put enough cash in your wallet to not only keep you from living off instant ramen, but to grant you the flexibility you need to maintain your sanity.
1. Brand Ambassador
Brand ambassador work is the Holy Grail for students who have limited time and want quick, easy money. These jobs are usually hired through marketing companies and are often as easy as handing out free stuff for a few hours. The best part? They’re typically contract-based, so you can sign a contract to work for the weekend when the semester is slow without being tied down to a job during midterms and finals.
2. Server
While serving can be hard work and has its fair share of downsides, you can’t beat working a four-hour dinner shift and coming home with over 100 bucks in tips (plus your wage)! It’s hard to do much better than serving if you want to make quick cash in short shifts.
3. On-Campus Jobs
On campus-jobs are awesome because you don’t waste any time getting from class to work. Another bonus? A lot of on-campus jobs are really laid back (and I mean REALLY laid back). In my first year of university, I worked at my campus’ recreational centre. Other than signing out the odd DVD for someone, let’s just say it was pretty much paid homework time.
4. Event Staff
If you’re constantly itching to attend music festivals and sports games but don’t have enough money or time to do it, being a staff member at these events is a great option. Organizers often need extra ticket takers, security, concession workers, bartenders—you name it. Scour Craigslist about a month before big events come into town and you’ll see postings for events you likely couldn’t afford on a student budget. They tend to pay well, and plus—you get free entry to what could be the sweetest gig of the year!
5. Social Media Coordinator
Social media jobs are easier to land than you might think, especially if you brush up your resume with volunteer experience managing a few accounts. While these jobs aren’t always as whimsical as they appear, the upsides are that you can work from home (at least part of the time) and even schedule most social posts in advance. Very convenient for the busy student.
6. Photographer
If you’re thinking of taking your photography to the next level, remember that photo editing takes lots of time. The bonus, however, is that you have the ability to manage the time around your study schedule. Photography, along with jobs like graphic design, tends to be more project-based, which means you don’t have to show up at an office from 9-5. Managing your own business while you’re in school isn’t for everybody, but if you’re up for it, you’ll be in control of your schedule. And that’s a serious perk when you’re juggling school and work.
