WATCH: Students Ask Their Dads What They’ve Always Wanted

Written by Chris D’Alessandro

My dad is the guy who has a new hobby every six months. Guitars, fly fishing, photography, golf, motorcycles, tattoos (he wimped out after getting his first one), baseball, comic books, wine-making, beer-making, BBQ and for some inexplicable reason, stamp collecting.

Most dads have that thing they always talk about buying — the one thing they’ve dreamed about owning (at least, for six months at a time).

But is that what they really want? We asked a few students to ask their dads that very question.

Get ready for feels.

When we were doing these interviews, somebody said to me, “You must get tired of asking people the same questions.”

I took a second to think about it, because it hadn’t really occurred to me, before replying, “No, not really — everybody has an interesting story!”

While we found, universally, that everyone’s dad, in their own words, really did just want the best for them, we also uncovered stories of sacrifice. Dads give up so much for us.

So wouldn’t it be nice to give something back?

If you haven’t already, head over to our Thank You Mom & Dad contest and tell your loved ones what they deserve to hear. When you submit your letter, we’ll enter you for a chance to win $20,000 for the people you owe everything to.

That’s $20,000 that could finally go towards your dad buying that rare, 1851 Queen Victoria stamp!

Okay, that’s probably just my dad.
